Can one word really tell the story? Can one photo accurately depict the essence of one word? The Photography Club of Beaufort hopes that’s the case. Throughout 2015, members of the club were asked to select one word and spend the year photographing events, places, landscapes, still lifes or portraits that represent that one word in a single photograph.

What says South Carolina more than WATER and WOODS? This all-encompassing title is the theme for an exhibition of paintings in oil, acrylic, gouache, and pastel by Lowcountry artist Tom Van Steenbergh opening January 8^th at the Beaufort Art Association Gallery.

The popular Books Sandwiched In (BSI) series, sponsored by the Friends of the Beaufort Library (FOL), will return in January 2016 with local authors, well-known community leaders and Gullah experts lined up as presenters for this free event.    

People talk often and feverishly about love at first sight. The lights seem to dim, violins play, deer leap, frogs row and tiny cute birds fly in from out of nowhere just to sing.  For me and my main man, he just looked at me with those dark brown pools of light, started shivering and then peed. That was ten years ago this January and, after scrubbing down my couch, we’ve been best buds ever since. Wow, it’s crazy to think we’ve been tied at the hip for an entire decade.
