The third concert of the 41st USCB Chamber Music season will be performed on Sunday, January 31, 5:00 pm. Socially distanced in-house attendees and a virtual audience will be dazzled by vibrant, life-affirming music. Artistic Director Andrew Armstrong has selected three extraordinary, new-to-this-series artists to join him, two of whom were contacted on short notice due to coronavirus-related personnel changes.
USCB Chamber Music audiences have come to expect exceptional concerts as a matter of course. Having Artistic Directors with deep connections within and beyond the chamber music fraternity has sustained a level of performance excellence equal to that of New York, London, or Paris. It is a tribute to Charles Wadsworth, Edward Arron, and Andrew Armstrong, as well as the knowledgeable, supportive low-country audience that players of international caliber choose to perform in Beaufort.
In our last issue, I opined: “If people with very different values and principles are going to live together in the same country (and even the same small towns) without killing each other… I believe we must learn to be more than just tolerant; we must learn to be forgiving. If we expect to survive as a nation, we must cultivate a spirit of forgiveness as if our very lives depended on it. Because they do.”
I was making a pot of our Mama’s spaghetti sauce this afternoon when I started thinking about my brother, Ray. As much as we loved Mama’s sauce recipe, we both adapted our respective versions to omit the heartburn evoking green peppers she always added to hers. I could almost see Ray rolling his eyes and fake belching. Remembering made me smile. It also made me sad. Ray died unexpectedly last Thursday, just a few days shy of his 53rd birthday.
Lowcountry Made will host an opening reception for local artist Analisa Chase’s new seascape collection, “Atlantic Waters,” at the new Lowcountry Made shop in Bluffton, located at 14 Johnston Way. The shop is located within the Juice Hive’s central location in Bluffton Village.
“The Atlantic Water’s Collection is comprised of seascapes representing the Atlantic coastline from the rocky formations and darker hued waters of New England to tropical Florida where shelly sands emerge and the water shows its crystal clear brilliance,” said Analisa Chase, a local Bluffton artist.
We don’t know what we don’t know. Perhaps what’s worse, sometimes we thinkwe know when, in fact, we’re actually making an assumption based on a related fact. If I’ve totally confused you, I apologize. What I’m trying to say is that we generally don’t know all the facts until we do our research.
Who doesn’t love a good conspiracy? Many compelling stories begin with a conspiracy. It’s why I’m a fan of soap operas. Lord knows I’ve come up with plenty of conspiracies in my time.
