First, let me say I welcome and appreciate the opportunity to be a guest writer for Wholly Holistics. While Katherine and Sutty have me pondering a variety of ideas, I will be focusing on one “simple” concept, that of reflexology.
Beaufort Art Association (BAA) Gallery is featuring ‘LowCountry Light & Color’ by Kim Painter from April 29 to June 30. The artist’s reception will be at the Gallery located at 913 Bay Street in Beaufort on Friday, May 4, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
Since I was a little boy, reading books has been an absolute passion, ever since the bookmobile visited our neighborhood in rural Kutztown, PA (population then about 3,200). I well remember walking home with an armful of books, ready to burrow into my favorite wicker chair and dive into them.
Debbi Covington Chronicles Sophisticated Cuisine from the South Carolina Lowcountry.
By Mark Shaffer
In the interest of full disclosure Debbi Covington is not only a longtime colleague, but a close friend. I even like her husband, Vince. I have her brother in-law Fleetwood’s art on my wall. You might say that I’m connected to the Covingtons as was my wife, Susan. She appreciated forthright people who loved to sip a fine bourbon. And when the worst happened last May, the Covingtons – like so many others – were right there. But I digress.
Award winners from Art League Academy’s 2018 Winter Student Show will exhibit their award-winning artwork alongside their instructors this April at Art League Gallery. Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, People’s Choice and Honorable Mention winners were chosen by Art Historian, Gabrielle Hoffman.
This time of year, if you are driving into the little town of Allendale not too far inland from Beaufort, you might be surprised at the abundant blue, pink, and white flowers growing wild along the railroad tracks for about a quarter mile from the town’s main stop light. There are hundreds and hundreds of them, appearing every spring to brighten an otherwise industrial setting.
Art League of Hilton Head presents Sharing the Spotlight, Paintings by Nancy Vineburgh & Joan Moreau McKeever this May at Art League Gallery. Both artists are from Connecticut and now live in Belfair, but each traveled entirely different roads to becoming artists. This show will encompass their shared love for the Lowcountry, along with paintings that divulge to the viewer the different times and places that they each hold dear.
I'm tickled pink to announce that I've written a new cookbook. Book number three, Celebrate Beaufort, will debut on April 19th. My dear friend, Susan DeLoach, did all of the food and location photography. Celebrate Beaufort is a limited edition and will only be available through my website (www.cateringbydebbicovington.com) and at local bookstores and gift shops.
There will be lots of opportunities for Beaufortonians and visitors to purchase signed copies. Keep reading Lowcountry Weekly and watch social media postings for signing dates and launch events.
