Join the second annual Beaufort Walk for Water at 9 am on Saturday, September 22nd at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. The Walk for Water promotes awareness of the global water crisis while raising funds to provide sustainable safe water around the world.

Bill Bogle, Jr. has a passion for capturing the beauty of nature — from the crisp morning air at sunrise, the quiet marsh, fog on the water, hills, trails, mountain peaks or canyon walls — through the lens of his camera.

His landscape photography will be on display during an exhibit called “Nature’s Elegance: National Parks and Beyond” from May 7-June 3 at The Society of Bluffton Artists (SoBA) gallery in Old Town Bluffton. The public is invited to an opening reception from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at the gallery.

The Society of Bluffton Artists’ (SoBA) is raffling off “Morning Melody,” a 12 x 12 inch oil painting created by nationally renowned American wildlife painter Linda St. Clair.

I had to bake a couple of cakes for a catering gig yesterday. At the last minute, I thought to add my Mama's secret ingredient, black walnut flavoring. That's what triggered it. As the cakes baked, my kitchen was ensconced with a lovingly familiar and kind of melancholy scent. My mind was flooded with memories. Smells do that to me more than anything else. And then, hot tears started streaming down my cheeks.
