USCB Center for the Arts and The Beaufort Children’s Theatre will present the beloved family musical, “The Wizard of OZ, young performers edition” May 17 and 18 at 7 pm and Sunday, May 19 at 3 pm. This one-hour edition begins when a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy (Scarlett Mercier) and her dog, Toto, (Maren Tillapaugh) are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz.
Outstanding Civilian Performers Join Beaufort Air Show 2019

A pioneer female aviator and a world champion aerobatic pilot are among the civilian performers who will join the customary lineup of outstanding military acts at the 2019 Beaufort Air Show at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort on April 27-28.
Representing 100 artists from 25 states, including South Carolina, the 26thBiennale promises to be a showcase of exemplary artwork. The national call for entries attracted more than 700 artworks from 43 states. Top pieces were selected based on originality of concept, composition and execution.
Awaken this spring to all things new, to gardens revived and friendships revisited. Easter, also called Pascha, is the most important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which Christians believe occurred on the third day after his crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33.

From April 29 through June 29, the Beaufort Art Association will feature the hand-built stoneware of Susan Ellzey and the palette-knife oil paintings of Tommie Toner. An opening reception will be held in honor of the artists on Friday, May 3 from 5-8 pm at the BAA Gallery located at 913 Bay Street. The public is cordially invited.

Independent Bookstore Day marks its fifth year of celebrating independent bookstores nationwide on Saturday, April 27th,with literary parties around the country.
NeverMore Books, 702 Craven Street, will be celebrating with local writers, illustrators, special discounts and giveaways.
I was driving to the Y the other day when a conversation on NPR caught my attention. The show was On Point, the interview was just starting, and I actually passed the Y and drove around Port Royal for a while, just listening, because I couldn’t believe my ears.
Hear these Beaufort poets and five other diverse South Carolina poets read at the launch of Archive: South Carolina Poetry Since 2005 on Saturday, April 27, from 5 pm at the Pat Conroy Literary Center. Published by Ninety-Six Press, Archive features 46 contributors, documenting the poetic life of the Palmetto State over the past 13 years. This event is free and open to the public; copies of Archive will be available for sale and signing after the reading.
