About 100 art aficionados attended the opening exhibit at USCB to view the works of South Carolina Chapter National Association of Women Artists (NAWA) and to learn what art garnered awards from judge Maggie Karis. 

First place was awarded to Candace Whittemore Lovely for her oil on linen, titled “Venus Goes H20” (left).  Lovely said, "The painting portrays a woman as Venus rising from the ocean," and Karis commented, "The painting captures all the elements of the Transparency and Light theme, as well as the human form which is difficult to portray."  

Day has slightly overtaken night. Flowering trees amorously erupt yellow pollen onto your skin. All of nature desires admiration, and the poets are as demanding for attention as clamorous crows. It must be April, National Poetry Month, which means you are in luck of seeing Beaufort’s Otram Slabess Poets in full bloom at two readings this month.  

The Pat Conroy Literary Center’s second annual Camp Conroy: Build a Book is a two-week summer camp to be held June 17-28, Monday-Friday, 8 am – 4 pm Presented in partnership with Beaufort Middle School, the program will provide campers, age 8-15, with a hands-on program of book building from start to finish.

The final concert of USCB Chamber Music's 39th season takes place on Sunday, April 14, 5:00pm. It will be a riotous affair with music of salt and sea, meditation, brilliant virtuosity, sparkling colors, and one of the great crossover works of the 20th century.
