For the Lowcountry Wind Symphony’s Winter Concert, Music Director Donald F. Jemella has chosen the themes of ‘Mystery and Mythology.’ These free concerts will be held at 7 pm on Friday, February 1^st, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 70 Lady’s Island Drive, Beaufort; and on Saturday, February 2^nd, at 4 pm, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 351 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton. All are invited to attend.

Christmas is weeks past and there are still a few reminders hanging around waiting to be put away, but like dust on my furniture, they’ve been around for so long I hardly notice them. After the holidays, I just had no oomph left to do anything about either. Sigh. I’m in the Doldrums.

I’ve been thinking a lot about transformation. My own. It is my chosen word of the new year. Past attempts at forming myself around a single word or focus have included balance, clarity, and inspiration. I’m not sure I have ever been successful, but I strove for what I needed at the time. This year, something inside of me wants to see great change, and I wonder if it won’t be the small changes that will end up making the biggest differences.

Life circumstances spared me the experience of heart-deep grief until I’d completed my university degree, and equal measures of courage and foolhardiness led me to become a Thoroughbred exercise rider for several years. In Saratoga a woman with whom I worked and shared a house became a good friend.
