Chef Penn Ten Eyck Spins New Meaning for “Local Plates”

To say Penn Ten Eyck is passionate about food and cooking is like saying Shakespeare was a decent writer. As a child he knew the chef’s life called him. It’s in his blood. The family’s got a long history in the local food scene going back decades. The Ten Eyck’s can even claim a bit of local film history, having catered the buffet spread during the post-funeral scene in "The Big Chill."

Have I mentioned that I like birds?

            Yes, that was sarcasm. And unlike Donald Trump, I understand the meaning of the word. I’m well aware I’ve written about birds here. Ad nauseam.

Beaufort native Anna Sheppard has taken third place in the third annual South Carolina High School Writing Contest, sponsored by The South Carolina Honors College and USC Press. Grand Judge Mary Alice Monroe judged the writings of the semi-finalists, 50 juniors and seniors, each of whom submitted two pieces of writing.

Ahhh, the perfect garden shed - the stuff of dreams. Often,
we gardeners are relegated to propping the digging fork and
the shovel in a corner of the garage, with the clippers and
shears in a drawer in the kitchen, extra pots and planters
stacked against a wall somewhere, and bags of fertilizer,
potting soil, plus odds and ends in whatever unused shelf or
box we can find.
