There are quite a few bees buzzing around a lot of red, white and blue bonnets, y’all.
It feels almost dangerous; the air icky, the stings and barbs sharper than surgical steel, the rhetoric as tedious as the continuous punch of an old, circa 1999 voting machine.

When I was growing up, my mother's go-to salad was a wedge of iceberg lettuce topped with a blob of chunky blue cheese dressing. She and Daddy scarfed it up like it was candy. I turned my nose up. What was the appeal of this stinky, gooey cheese stuff? Of course, I swore that I would never eat blue cheese.

The Studio Art Program and the Fine Arts Department at the University of South Carolina Beaufort presents Anonymous Ancestors, an art installation by Susan Lenz at the Sea Islands Center Gallery on the university’s Historic Beaufort campus through the month of September. A public lecture will be conducted by Ms. Lenz September 30 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm, followed by an artist’s reception. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

For the first time since Grease: The Musical in 2014, all three members of the Sweetgrass Angels will appear together in a production at the Beaufort Theater Company. And this theatrical reunion only scratches the surface of the ways that 9 to 5: The Musical brings Beaufort together. The cast members represent a wide array of the communities that make up life in the Lowcountry, with ties to the military, USCB, the public schools, the arts, small businesses, and many other walks of life.

Members of the heath family typically love acidic, well-drained soils, high in organic matter. Ericaceae is a large family with around 4000 species and includes Rhododendrons, azaleas, blueberries, and it also includes the parasitic Genus Monotropa or Indian Pipes. Edible berries, lovely flowers, and outstanding fall color make the blueberries a noteworthy choice for landscaping.
