Short Story America, the Beaufort-based publisher of contemporary and classic short stories, has chosen Beaufort as the location for the first Short Story America Festival and Conference. Scheduled for September 21-23, the festival will feature readings and signings by top writers of short stories, seminars and discussions for aspiring and emerging authors of short fiction, and opportunities for readers to discuss short stories with authors.
The Photography Club of Beaufort's semi-annual print competition was held Monday night. Three local artists served as judges for the club: JW Rone, director of ARTWorks; Stuart Lathrop, IT director and visual artist; Bob Sofaly, photojournalist.
Amiri Geuka Farris is the winner of the Art League of Hilton Head’s 2012 RBC Heritage Poster Competition. The poster, celebrating the island’s 44-year old PGA golf tournament, depicts a young version of the event’s mascot gentleman golfer Sir William “Willie” Innes. Dressed in vintage Scottish plaid, Innes stands mid-swing at the 18th fairway overlooking the Hilton Head Lighthouse.
Vickie Jourdan titled her new exhibit of recent abstract works “For the Love of Red,” a name that has become her good luck charm. In a past one-woman show at the Art League, Jourdan’s signature painting by the same name sold before the opening.
