And just as I was on the brink of losing my ever lovin’ mind . . . or deciding to pack up a house full of junk, dogs, kids and unmatched socks and move North.
Every summer, our friends Jon and Lolita throw a party that features culinary creations from Jon's smoker. Friends and guests share appetizers, side dishes, desserts (and copious amounts of adult beverages) to complete the annual feast. Over the years, Jon has smoked just about every type of meat that you can think of. His lasagna is my personal favorite. Always a fun event, we all eat way too much and smell like smoke for at least a week. This year, I asked Jon if he would be willing to share some of his recipes with my readers. He graciously agreed. These are a few of the offerings from this year's soiree.

The cost is $10 per person to participate; however, donations beyond $10 are more than welcome. Non YMCA members are encouraged to participate and will receive a complimentary Y day pass as an added thank you!
I can’t figure out the rules for dropping in to see people when I’m in the neighborhood. I have friends who are obviously not happy when I do this and others who are thrilled. I also have friends who say drop by any time, but sometimes when I do, they are not so happy to see me. I almost always love it when people drop by and am willing to inconvenience myself once in a while if someone comes by when it isn’t an ideal time.
David Millman at the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery
David Millman gives a first impression of being quiet and conservative. A gregarious laugh soon corrects that misinterpretation. Lively in both thought and art, he embodies the spirit of an artist with expert ability across many disciplines, including sculpture, photography, illustration and music.
I just got back from a wonderful conference up in Cullowhee, NC, and wouldn’t you know I’d have to learn some things that took me out of my comfort zone of landscape design. It’s not fair to be an old gal and have to learn or relearn new tricks!
