I don’t mean to brag but . . .  I just finished my diet in only 3 hours and 12 minutes.
    I read that somewhere the other day and laughed.
     See, here at the Packard household, one of us finished in 1 hour, 2 minutes and 59 seconds.
    Try and beat that.

Dear L.A.,
What has happened to simple good manners? A close friend of mine has two children, who are now 10 and 12, a girl and a boy. Both are polite and will engage in conversation with their mom’s adult friends. Every Christmas and birthday, I give each a well-thought-out present, always something they’d like. But I have yet to receive a thank you of any sort from either child.

     Area artists Wayne Chambers and Daniel McSweeney will be featured at the Beaufort Art Association (BAA) starting January 8 and running through February 26, 2017. The theme of their exhibit will be “Water & Earth” highlighting Chambers’ watercolor technique and McSweeney’s pottery techniques. An opening reception will be held at the Gallery at 913 Bay Street in Beaufort on Friday, January 13, from 5 to 7:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. There will also be on exhibit the work of 65 other local artists, who are members of the Gallery. The public is invited.
