On October 10, Shakespeare Rep, Beaufort's professional classical theatre company launches its Season of Wonders with the quirky contemporary comedy Almost, Maineat the USCB Center for the Arts. Almost, Maine is a study in contrasts: alternately funny and heartbreaking, it is about simple folks grappling with complicated matters of the heart.

Join animal and art lovers at Palmetto Animal League’s 2^nd Annual Artisans Fur Animals Gala on Friday, October 10^th, hosted by Presenting Sponsor Hilton Head Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram. Mingle and bid on amazing silent and live auction artwork, featuring one-of-a-kind cat and dog sculptures designed by SCAD Professor and Ceramicist Jessica Broad, and whimsically painted by 25 Lowcountry artists, jewelry, wood carvings, photographs, paintings, and unique artisan works. Drawings for beautiful gift baskets. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the live auction, by Steve Allen and Mark Thibodeau of Gallery 95 Auction, begins at 6:45 pm. Included in the ticket price are fabulous food by Sigler’s, sweet treats by pastry chef Teresa Brandow, craft beers by River Dog Brewing and a wine bar.

Hands Across the Bridge

The 15 artists of the Maye River Gallery in Bluffton will extend their “Hands Across the Bridge” to Hilton Head from October 1 thru November 30. The Coastal Discovery Museum will host the artists, who will be exhibiting in the Hilton Head gallery. (The Bluffton Gallery will remain open 7 days a week from 10 am – 5 pm.) The artists will meet and greet residents and visitors alike and share some of their insights in a series of artist’s demos throughout the two-month visit. Maye River Gallery is comprised of 15 artists whose names are well recognized in the local art scene, among them several art instructors and many award winners. The variety and quality of their work is stunning. Plan a visit to Honey Horn Plantation’s Discovery House Gallery to enjoy fine art from the hands of Earline Allen, Paulette Bennett, Jo Dye, Anne Hakala, Donna Ireton, Carrol Kay, Susan Knight, Judy Saylor McElynn, Audrey Montgomery, Joyce Nagel, Mary Grayson Segars, Barbara Snow, Kathy Tortorella, Marci Tressel, and Caroll Williams.

The media used by the artists range from textiles to art glass, photography to basketry, 3D assemblage to collage, clay to sterling, printmaking to painting in watercolor, pastels and oils. In addition to the art featured in the gallery, visitors will see a display of photos showing the hands of the artists as they create their art.

foreign-Eiffel-Tower The Society of Bluffton Artists presents “Foreign Affairs – Around the World in Art” by Virginia MacKenzie, a truly versatile and creative artist. The show will be on exhibit from October 6 through November 1 at the SOBA Gallery. As the name implies, all the works of art are depictions, along with stories, of some of the international destinations Virginia has visited.
