You know how when you live with someone for a long time, you really don’t see them anymore? As we age, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing! But this can happen with your garden, too, and that is a bad thing.
Would you just look at that mess? Some doofus has taken that whole wheelbarrow full of gorgeous newly-made potting mix and moved it out under the eaves of the potting shed.
I’m going to attempt a response to one of my writing partner’s recent articles here. I doubt I’ll do justice to probably the most beautiful piece Katherine Tandy Brown has written for Wholly Holistics, but it’s worth a shot. Here goes:
Eons ago, Greek philosopher Socrates proffered that “To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.” Sounds easy enough. L. Frank Baum agreed in 1900 when he co-wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Remember his message? That you already have answers to all your questions inside you, especially those big-sucker life puzzles.
There are so many alternatives to lawn that are available, and they can add beauty and environmental services. Lawn or turf can be expensive to grow and maintain. There are areas in the yard that are too shady, sloped or have poor drainage. Most of our warm season grasses require full/part sun, regular irrigation, and well drained soils.
The typical holistic fare I usually write about had its origins before I became what I am today. Sounds obvious, but we have to keep in mind our origin stories. What collection of experiences made us who we are today? Me, I started noticing the subtle signs a few years after my first transpersonal experience, which was astral projection.
