I hesitated to address this topic. Reading about other people's gratitude can be so tedious. I didn't actually know that until a bunch of my Facebook friends started something called "30 Days of Gratitude," which is just what it sounds like.
Beaufort Symphony Orchestra has something for everyone in their "Fa LaLaLaLa" Winter Holiday Concert at USCB Center for the Arts on Dec. 5 and 8. Maestro Fred Devyatkin has filled our musical stocking with Handel, Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky, topped it off with traditional Christmas and Hanukah songs, and then added a rousing finale of holiday sing-along favorites to rev up your holiday spirit!
The Photography Club of Beaufort has announced the winners of the semi-annual Fall Competition, held in October. Judging the event were local photojournalist Bob Sofaly, commercial photographer and IT specialist Stuart Lathrop and Susan Laney of Laney Contemporary Fine Art in Savannah.
Gardening makes you stupid. Or at least crazy. Well, I guess I can only speak for myself; but, based on empirical data and decades of observation, I can say with at least moderate certainty that gardening makes me stupid. And crazy.
Throughout history, every society has celebrated the end of the harvest. Many have set aside a day of thanks. In 1941, Thanksgiving Day became a national holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. It's the one day of the year that we Americans can consume an abundance of food without a second thought about calories! The recipes this week are all Thanksgiving side dishes. Team a couple (or all) of them with a roasted turkey for a modern twist on a traditional Thanksgiving menu. All you'll need to add is a pumpkin pie topped with sweetened whipped cream for a grand finale. Happy Thanksgiving!

Imagine a fellow who's been lucky enough to have received a good education while living in nine states and to have held truly interesting jobs. Imagine him taking a deep breath and sitting back down at his laptop. He just reached a milestone of sorts, column #25 for Lowcountry Weekly, and it seemed like a good time to reflect on the past few years and where the always enjoyable writing process has led and vice versa. And yes these destinations have included a rabbit hole or two!
