On Sunday, March 7, 5:00, the Center for the Arts will once again resound with live, lively, and life affirming music. During this unprecedented concert season, USCB Chamber Music has dealt with its share of upheaval. The one constant is that in each instance lemons have been turned into lemonade. The show has gone on with spectacular results.
For dance students, age 10-19, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities’ student ballet competition, Grand Jeté, not only offers the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and learn from esteemed dance professionals in master classes. In a one night only event, the Beaufort Theatre Company will present a broadcast-style take on the Charles Dickens classic with all the action set in a 1940s radio studio, complete with vintage commercials and live sound effects.

November 1861. Union forces oust Confederates on Hilton Head Island during the Battle of Port Royal. Over the next few months hundreds of enslaved men, women and children flee plantations and seek protection at the Union army encampment. A year later the country’s first self-governed town of freed Africans, now numbering 1500, would be established here. Its name was Mitchelville.
